Gates: Passed away unexpectedly on November 3, 2018 at age 57. Don “Coach“ Phillips was a proud father of his son Don Phillips Jr., had a larger than life personality with his big heart for people, animals, Dallas Cowboys & capturing a crowd with his hunting and fishing tales. Don was known to many as a friend & always greeted everyone in the community of Gates with a hello, whether it be to the patron next to him on his barstool at his favorite spot Fatso’s, or walking to & from his destinations. Don spent a lot of time over the years as a hockey & baseball coach for Don Jr.’s teams, one year leading the Tri-County Squirts Youth Hockey to a State Championship & thirty plus years of annual hunting trips with his friend Dave & their sons which he looked forward to the yearly tradition. Don was employed by Wegmans for 34 years & took pride in his role at the company, starting at a young age. In recent years Don spent a lot of time coming to Florida to visit Don Jr., spending time together attending hockey, football, baseball games, golf tournaments & fishing up a storm to increase his tales to be told. Don leaves behind his supportive & loving family, his mother Betty Phillips, son Don Phillips Jr. & daughter-in-law Jessica Phillips, his sweet sister Michelle Phillips Stone & brother-in-law Ralph Stone, sister Donna (Mike) McGee & brother Brian Phillips (Christine) Phillips, sister Joyce Benna and stepbrother Jimmy Phillips. Don was a loving uncle to his nephews Nehemiah Stone, James McGee, Timothy McGee & nieces Nicole Stone Brunner, Hannah Stone, Rebekah Stone, Elena Phillips and great nieces Lilliana Stone and Lemon Brunner. Don was predeceased by his father, Donald Willard Phillips & nephew Ralphie Stone.
